Ew I was, DA is just a bunch of retards, if you go there...Don't. And for future references, don't bump threads that are like a month+ old or else Alex is going to eat you.

DA robs people of their creativity. Don't get your creativity from a bunch of emofags who think overusing the dodge tool it "cool" and god forbid if they call it "art"

"Art is either plagiarism or a revolution." Learn it. Love it. Apply it. Good luck

Hmm. I disagree entirely about deviant art. It's a place where people display some incredible works of art. You just have to find it. I like DA because it is like communism in art form; people can post regardless of their ability and get feedback from people all over the world. I think you are underselling the website based on a pretty substantial generalisation - Many people use DA as a forerunner to their professional portfolios, or display the work that they created personally. From this perspective it gives you an insight into how artists work. It's a pretty invaluable tool.

Don't talk like that, you sound like a pretentious prick. Being a photographer, I thought you'd be more weary of judging art, considering the number of douches who don't consider photography to be art.

All art is subjective, deal with it.

I just don't like DA, the whole copyrighting thing, rarely any of them give you ANY constructive criticism at all (Example - OMG THIS IS AWESOME) You don't need compliments from random people who may not even know anything about art at all. I'm saying all DA users are like this, but a majority of them is. Have faith in your art, improve it, and you'll go a long way.

I'll admit, that is mostly true. However, getting my stuff out there is good for me, I rarely show anyone my sketchbook. DA gives me a platform to show people what I've done and motivates to actually do art. There's so much shit on Youtube, but some Youtubers are really doing amazing things, if you can push away all the crap it's a great community. DA is quite similar.

Marcus I bet your photography is really good. Just keep at it and improve anyway you can. Instead of just showing your photos on DA, just look at other peoples. Subscribe to legit photographers who have a passion for what they do, not the people who think TAKING PICKS OF THIS IS SUPER DUPER KICKASS. Learn how to manipulate textures, colors, and the use the angles and cropping.
